Large scale data loss

The Christchurch earthquake in February 2011 resulted in the loss of the company's primary data centre. This was further accentuated with key infrastructure being out of action and the inherent weakness in physical data backup.
 

The solution

Keeping critical data secure

Noel Leeming Group was already operating on Gen-i's ReadyCloud platform so moving to ReadyCloud Backup was a common sense transition. Noel Leeming Group now has its web servers being backed up by ReadyCloud Backup. The backed up data resides in Auckland with a replicated copy in Wellington. Gen-i's monitoring and oversight at its secure carrier grade Tier 3+ data centres also reduces the risk of business information being accessed by third parties.
 

The result

Backing up only data that has changed

ReadyCloud Backup’s de-duplication capability only backs up the data that has changed.  It recognises common bit-patterns and only keeps one copy on disk. After a thorough scanning phase, a backup occurs. In terms of actual backup times, the Group has noticed a marked improvement.
