7:00PM Update
Today we’ve continued the focus around the clock on supporting the Christchurch region.
We are continuing to restore and maintain critical infrastructure and services across our data centres, voice, data and mobile networks, as well as ensuring the wellbeing and safety of our people and their families. We are also prioritising the support we provide to clients who are providing emergency and government services, as well as those providing essential services and infrastructure.
Gen-i has established communication services at the Christchurch Welfare Centres and is supporting the staff running the centres with voice, data and mobile connectivity and has provided them with mobile devices, XT data cards, wireless printers and scanners.
Telecom has also established Telecom Connect Hubs at the welfare centres for those requiring assistance with communications. The Connect Hubs offer free calling, free internet access, mobile charging facilities and distribution of analogue phones for people without power at home.
We have established one standard, robust and easy to follow process for all client requests so we achieve the best results in Canterbury. By following this process, our people are firstly supporting the priority emergency services organisations, enabling them to deliver more, and ensuring their requests get to the right people. Secondly, they ensure business continuity for all Christchurch businesses impacted by the earthquake.
Overall the Telecom network remains up and stable, and Telecom exchanges are operational with a combination of mains and generated power, as are the majority of mobile sites.
Our data centres remain operable and our managed networks are performing well. As the needs of the emergency service providers have been sustainably met, we’ve started to work with core service providers to maintain other essential communications services.
Tomorrow we will provide another update on our work to support the people of Canterbury by maintaining and restoring ICT and telecommunications services in the region.
We’re all praying with the rest of New Zealand for miracles in the Christchurch CBD and the return of loved ones to their families and friends.
We are committed to supporting Canterbury every step of the way back.
