The current situation for Gen-i and Telecom IT and communication services in Canterbury is stable and operational, and there are no changes to report.

Our teams on the ground in Christchurch and across the country continue to provide support to the rescue and recovery activity, as well as organisations providing essential services and infrastructure.  Gen-i is also working closely with commercial businesses to support rebuild and recovery activities across Canterbury.

We will continue to prioritise all essential work and are expanding our resources and capability to continue to meet the needs of our clients outside the Canterbury region.

Gen-i & Telecom services in Christchurch Status
Telecom PSTN network

Stable – all exchanges operational with a combination of mains and generated power.

Work is now focused on diagnosing and restoring localised faults due to physical damage to the network

Mobile networks (XT and CDMA) Stable – mobile network is fully functioning and temporary cellsites are in place
Data centres
(Hillmorton and Hereford Street)
Stable – operable and services being monitored and maintained remotely
Managed voice and data networks Stable and performing well
Managed Customer Centres We have expanded our resources to meet the overall increase in demand. Client calls and requirements are being supplemented by our contact centres in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. Please contact your Client Manager or normal MCC service contacts for any priority emergency requests
Provisioning and relocation work Good progress on meeting the demand for emergency services requests and BAU processes
ICT equipment and services Good stock levels of servers, laptops, mobile devices and accessories.
