The Ministry of Social Development took the Prime Minister’s Award at the inaugural 2008 Awards ceremony last year for ‘Improving Outcomes for Young People in Counties Manukau (Youth Gangs)’.

Ross Tanner, President of IPANZ, said that the Awards celebrate those projects and organisations that make a difference to the lives of New Zealanders, and highlight and reward significant public sector achievements. The independent judging panel looked for excellence in vision, innovation and results.

"Some outstanding programmes and activities undertaken in the public sector contribute a huge amount to the daily lives and wellbeing of New Zealanders. It is important that we recognise our ‘stars’, to motivate and encourage others in the sector into making a difference as well," said Mr Tanner.

Chris Quin, CEO of Gen-i, said that as principal sponsor of the awards for the second year running, Gen-i was once again impressed with the quality of this year’s entrants.

"Gen-i shares IPANZ’s passion for excellence and we are delighted that this year’s Awards attracted a number of high calibre entries across the board.  We are proud to be associated with the Awards that recognise and encourage innovation throughout the public sector,” said Mr Quin.

Price Waterhouse Coopers, the State Services Commission, the Leadership Development Centre, Te Puni Kokiri, Talent2, Microsoft and Russell McVeagh are also supporting the Awards.
