Thanks for a brilliant evening

Here's a belated, but no less heart-felt, thanks to all of those who supported our "little" I Love CW fashion show and charity auction event in September.

As our main fundraising event for the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust in the lead up to running the New York marathon on November 6, it was a brilliant night!

What was meant to be a low level, but well done affair in the foyer of Telecom Place in Auckland, ended up with 400 guests, the glitz of New York, 14 live auctions, four fashion brands modelled on the catwalk, live bands and 50 silent auctions.

We had some very special guests in attendance too - the CatWalk crew and founder Catriona Williams, as well as CatWalk patron, Zara Phillips.

Of course this meant we even had paparazzi camped outside the building, which helped getting the event on the front page of newspapers!

Overall, we raised a good amount for CatWalk and got a lot of exposure for their great work.

But in many ways, one of the biggest achievements was having Gen-i team member, Marie Mackey, join us from Christchurch for the event. Marie sadly incurred a spinal cord injury in the February 22 Canterbury earthquake and this was her first brave trip away from home and the hospital. The evening opened up new possibilities for her world and she was there looking fantastic.

The whole event made two things clear to us that are worth reflecting on.  The first is what an amazing position we are in being able to call on a talented pool of people who worked like slaves to put on the event, sell tickets and to make the magic happen.

Also, despite all the calls on people’s generosity that have been made in the last year for many good reasons, there is still a great generosity of spirit for giving in dollars, time and passion for a worthy cause.

Once again, thanks!
