Today, Telecom confirmed the closure of the CDMA network on the 31st July 2012. Read the Telecom media release here.
With the growth and expansion of the XT mobile network which now provides a service that surpasses the CDMA mobile network, Telecom will close the CDMA network next year. The XT network offers our clients a superior experience while roaming overseas and using mobile broadband here in New Zealand. We upgraded our network to HSPA+ to allow XT clients to take advantage of mobile broadband speeds faster than those they have been enjoying with CDMA.
Gen-i clients that have a CDMA device including handset, Mobile EFTPOS, vehicle GPS and telemetry devices, will no longer be able to make or receive calls, texts or use data services from the 31st July 2012. Over the next 12 months, Gen-i will work with clients to ensure that they are aware of the upgrade and switching options well in advance of the CDMA network closure.
