Release date: 16 February 2011

Telecommunications Minister Steven Joyce this morning released a Supplementary Order Paper (SOP) outlining proposed further amendments to the Telecommunications Act, along with supporting Cabinet Papers.

In the statement, he says the documents detail proposed legislative changes necessary to enable a range of Government initiatives including Ultra-fast Broadband and the Rural Broadband Initiative.

We remain in negotiations with Crown Fibre Holdings regarding commercial terms to deliver Ultra-fast Broadband, and remain committed to finding a solution that meets the needs of our shareholders, the Government and New Zealand.

Further information about the Supplementary Order Paper is available in the MED Q&A.
